Over the year, many vets have received one common problem with dog owners, & it is overweight in dogs or pet obesity. If you have a dog then you might not be aware of this serious problem or you don’t take this problem seriously at all. Now the main thing is that, if you underestimate this issue, then you are most likely to get surprised one day by seeing that your dog gained excessive weight, but the truth is it takes time to gain weight but you never paid attention to your dog’s health before. An important study by the Association for Pet Obesity Prevention shows that 55 percent dogs are overweight or obese.

How to put your dog on a diet
Before you put the dog on diet, it’s important to make the dog exercise more because it helps a lot to burn calories. Make sure that your dog spends extra time on exercising on a daily basis. Now here comes the main part, the food you provide is always responsible for your dog’s weight gain. If your dog eats too much meat or any other healthy food then you need to reduce the amount. You should provide a balanced amount of food: neither too much nor too less. Also if the dog eats too often every day then it’s a good idea to cut back on treats. This doesn’t mean that the dog should eat as it should but what it means is that give your dog meals multiple times in a less amount than the one huge meal daily. You can start by feeding your dog some natural recipes. You may provide two cups of zucchini, celery, beans, and carrots, or four cups of cooked beans, peas, carrots and corn. You may also add two cups of rolled oats. When you are done in selecting these you should cook these vegetables with four to five cups of water. You should stop when it tender, then you have to put the oats by covering for ten minutes. In the end, you may add some vegetable oil.

Monitor calories in the food of your dog
As a dog owner, it’s your responsibility to monitor the dog’s food & food habit. You should also look out for the ingredients in the food. If you provide 10 kibbles extra food every day then your dog can gain a pound of weight very easily. A universal truth we all know is that “equal calories should go out as equal calories go in”. So you need to understand the balance between food & exercise, to keep your dog healthy.
Stop the dog from eating feces
If you are an experienced dog owner then you probably know that, fat dogs like moist feces. It doesn’t matter which animal’s feces is it, these fat dogs tend to eat it anyway. Now, something you need to know, normally dogs eat feces which is a step in their digestive process. If your dog doesn’t get some specific nutrients enough then it will lead him to eat feces. So you have to provide recommended dog food & get the dog out of the habit of eating nothing else other than given food, because the habit of eating feces may create a negative problem over time.
