If you are a dog owner then you know that one of the most difficult problems with your dog is the potty problem. You must potty train your dog if you want to keep your home fresh. Most dogs are seen to have potty training problems such as passive urination & if you do not train your dog from the puppy hood then chances are the dog will end up having potty problems in future.
Many dogs have this problem for a lot of common reasons. Whatever the reason is, if you notice your dog having something like this, then it’s better to take her to the vet for a full clinical check up to see if there is any type of clinical issues or not. When the clinical test is done, your vet can make sure whether it’s a behavioral problem or wellness issues.
Another thing you need to know that, it doesn’t matter whether the dog is male or female, the age or breed, any dog can go through this potty problem at any stage of their life.
A well-known animal behaviorist from Sydney also believes that inappropriate urination is a serious problem. Also, many dog experts mentioned one common thing about this problem. From puppyhood to the last stage, any dog can suffer from inappropriate urination at some stages of life.
If your dog doing toilet inside the house, then you should never yell at the dog or punish him, because it will never solve this problem. However, if you yell or punish the dog then there is a chance that the dog will not have the toilet outside when you are at home, rather the dog will toilet inside the house.
Issue: What to do if the dog isn’t potty trained
Solution: Normally it is noticed that the dog can hold it for a few hours depending on the age. If your puppy is three months old then he can hold it no longer than three hours. On the other end, if the dog is nine months old then the dog can hold it for five to six hours. It’s a good idea to take the dog outside whenever you can. Don’t forget to monitor what he does outside. You should supervise the puppy whenever he stays outside.
Issue: The crate is too big
During the night, a lot of dog owners like to take the puppy in the crate. Also when the owners can’t see the dog for a long period of time, they also take the dog in the crate. Dogs usually don’t pee in the bed but sometimes, if the crate is too large then he can spend the whole time there, & that’s when many dogs pee in the crate. So you need to keep in mind that you don’t get a big crate.
Small Crate: If you are serious to crating the puppy for potty training then you need to keep in mind that you will have to change the crate over time as the puppy grows up. So initially you should look for the little crate. Also don’t forget to keep the puppy out of the crate in a specific time when he normally pees & keep the potty near him, because the puppy will develop a good habit over time.
How you should take your dog in crate: If you determined that you will go with crate, then remember one thing do not put the crate in a place where he may feel uncomfortable & insecure. Crates are normally meant to be a nest for dogs where they can relax pretty easily in the evening or night.
Separation anxiety: If your puppy has a peeing problem, then you need to figure out that there are some behavioral problems that might be making your dog to do it in a wrong way. If your dog is going through separation anxiety then you should start taking care of this from the beginning. When a dog goes through separation anxiety he is most likely going to miss the beloved owner.
To stop your dog from suffering from it, you need to take care of the puppy also do not forget to leave his favorite toy when you go outside. A good idea is that you should decrease the attachment with the puppy as time goes by. Because if the dog is always too attached then he will never allow you to leave or if you leave then he will go through this separation anxiety which may cause the inappropriate urination. If the condition is very serious then it’s a good idea to take the puppy to the vet before it’s too late.
Issue: Your puppy pees in the plants
It’s not only your puppy but also a lot of dog owner face this problem. Unneutered male dogs are most likely to pee in the plants. There might be some other reasons like clinical issues or wellness problem so in these cases you better to take the puppy to the vet.
